Basic Electrical Engineering Lab

The Basic Electrical Engineering Laboratory provides a strong foundation for undergraduate engineering students by offering practical exposure to core electrical engineering principles. Equipped with modern experimental setups, the laboratory enables students to analyze and validate concepts related to DC and AC circuits, electrical machines, transformers, measuring instruments, and basic power systems. Students perform key experiments, including Ohm’s law, Kirchhoff’s laws, network theorems, single- and three-phase circuits, transformer characteristics, DC and AC machines, and electrical measurements, thereby reinforcing theoretical knowledge through hands-on implementation. Emphasis is placed on safe operating practices, precise measurements, circuit analysis, and systematic troubleshooting. The laboratory supports regular practical sessions,

skill-based training, demonstrations, and introductory project work under the supervision of experienced faculty and technical staff, playing a crucial role in preparing students for advanced studies, industry-oriented learning, and professional practice in electrical engineering.

List of Experiments

  • Verification of Kirchhoff’s laws
  • Measurement of power and power factor in a single-phase ac series inductive circuit, and study the improvement of power factor using a capacitor.
  • Study the phenomenon of resonance in an RLC series circuit and determine the resonant frequency.
  • Connection and measurement of the power consumption of a fluorescent lamp (tube light).
  • Measurement of power in a 3-phase circuit by the two-wattmeter method and determination of its power factor for star as well as delta-connected load.
  • Determination of parameters of an AC single-phase series RLC circuit
  • Determination of (i) Voltage ratio, (ii) polarity, and (iii) efficiency by load test of a single-phase Transformer
  • Determination of the efficiency of a DC shunt motor by load test
